Superfood Spotlight: Antioxidant Berry Blast

If there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that inflammation is the root of many illnesses and diseases. It’s linked to just about every health condition including arthritis, cancer, heart disease and even the common cold. Many things can contribute to inflammation including minor food allergies, a poor diet, stress and a sedentary lifestyle. What’s one of our favourite ways to combat inflammation? With antioxidants! There are many ways to combat inflammation but one of the easiest ways to do this is through the foods that we consume, specifically through consuming a variety of antioxidant rich foods.
What Are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants play a pretty important role in our bodies, including inhibiting oxidation. Oxidation and oxidative stress within the body results in an increase of free radicals, which can accumulate and contribute to inflammation. Therefore, consuming an antioxidant rich diet can help to prevent the spread of free radicals which in turn lowers oxidation and inflammation. While there are so many different antioxidant rich foods to choose from, we felt it was our duty to compile the best of the best to create one antioxidant packed superfood blend: our Antioxidant Berry Blast. Here’s what’s in it:
Blueberries are one of the most beloved antioxidant rich fruits. They’re a great source of vitamin C as well as Manganese. Blueberries are also packed with anthocyanins, an antioxidant flavanoid that gives them their beautiful indigo-purple pigment. Just 1 tbsp of our blueberry powder is equivalent to ½ cup of fresh blueberries!
You’re probably most familiar with acai berries in the form of a frozen concentrate that’s used to make antioxidant packed smoothie bowls, but did you know that acai berries are also a great source of fat?! In 1 serving (approximately 1.5 tbsp) of our acai berry powder, you’re getting 5g of healthy fats, plus 4g of carbs - 3 of which are fibre! This makes our acai berry powder an amazing source of antioxidants for the keto diet!
The indigenous people of Central and Southern Chile, the Mapuche, have been using maqui berries for centuries.
